Movies I’ve seen lately

Now is good
Now is Good follows the story of Tessa, who has been diagnosed with terminal stage leukemia. She compiles list of things she'd like to do before passing away. When she finds herself falling in love with Adam in the process, things get a lot more complicated. This movie is a must-see, I guarantee you’ll be crying while watching it, if you’re sensitive. Plus, Dakota Fanning and Jeremy Irvine make a cute, credible couple.
Last Vegas
The movie tells the story of four old-buddies, reunited in Las Vegas, for a bachelor party. Billy (Michael Douglas), a millionaire notorious for resisting matrimony, finally decides to marry his 30-year old girlfriend. His gang includes Archie (Morgan Freeman), who recently suffered a mild stroke, Sam (Kevin Kline), depressed by his loss of lust for life, and Paddy (Robert De Niro), a widower who sits at home all day long. I must confess that if it wasn’t for Robert De Niro, whom I am very fond of, this movie would not have tempted me at all. I actually found myself fast-forwarding through it several times. It is not exceptional, although it has a few funny moments. Worth watching you you’re a De Niro fan, like me.
Gravity
A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space. Featuring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, this is an interesting movie, with lots of special effects and a few dull, conversational moments.

12 Years a Slave
In the antebellum United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Northup is then sold from master-to-master, and has his resistance brutally hammered until he learns to keep his words about freedom to himself. It takes him twelve years to find freedom, through the kindness of a Canadian carpenter named Bass and an old friend from Saratoga, where Solomon was a skilled fiddle-player by profession. Solomon is played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Bass is Brad Pitt, who also produced the movie. 12 Years a Slave is a brutal, realistic tale of extremely unjust times for those less-privileged.
The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug
The dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim Erebor, their homeland, from Smaug. Bilbo Baggins is in possession of a mysterious and magical ring. The second part of the Hobbit trilogy came as a surprise to me, being much better than its predecessor. It could either be because of the Elves (including Legolas), who are back in action, of the dragon Smaug himself, menacingly voiced by Bennedict Cumberbatch with a mixture of humor or the newly-added Luke Evans as Bard- all contributed to enhancing the level of charisma and the quality of the action. Worth watching!
American Hustle

Ok, so I love to save the best for last! In short, the movie’s plot is this: a former convict, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive British partner, Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild FBI agent, Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia. Definitely a character-driven movie, American Hustle is built on the American dream idea that you can always reinvent yourself, live a fake existence and become somebody else, to please others. A true masterpiece, with many unexpected action twists and turns, benefiting from the huge charisma of some remarkable actors (Christian Bale, Robert De Niro, Jeremy Renner-need I say more?). A clever, sophisticated and slick movie that you definitely should not miss!

    1. Gravity este un film altfel, bazat pe o idee originala. Sa-mi spui cum ti-a placut 12 Years a Slave, e un film foarte realist, "greu"

  5. "12 Years a Slave" mi se pare interesant.
In ultima vreme, am vazut "The Butler". Este o alta poveste dar pe aceeasi tema si actiunea are loc intr-un trecut mai apropiat.
